About Me…
My name is Stacy Jacobs. I am a self-taught resin and abstract fluid artist based in Vernon Hills, Illinois. I create my artwork using multiple mediums, specifically epoxy resin and acrylic paints.
The color and design possibilities are endless and allow for my creative expression to flow freely. I use epoxy resin along with acrylic paints, liquid pigments, mica powders, alcohol inks and custom glitters to bring my envisions to life.
Resin Art – Working with resin requires mixing “resin” and “hardener”, which starts an exothermic reaction, (when the liquid gradually hardens to a hard plastic.)
Once the exothermic reaction begins, I have a limited working time to “draw” my designs, with pigmented colors, into the resin before it hardens to a solid plastic.
I apply several layers of epoxy resin for a realistic multidimensional effect. I use only the highest quality resin and pigments and allow at least 48 hours for the resin to cure (harden). I then apply a topcoat layer to increase durability and quality.
Fluid Art –Fluid art is much more forgiving than epoxy resin. I use acrylic paints with a pouring medium to “thin” the paint allowing it to flow more freely on the canvas, with a longer working time. My favorite technique is called the “dutch-pour”, using air to manipulate the paints on the canvas to achieve stunning effects.
